New particles appearing near neutrinos/measured imbalance of transverse momentum

  • Whoandwhatitis by Whoandwhatitis moderator

I often see object that show one or more charged particles that seem to originate very near the red dashed line. In this object, I see two such particles, and one of them is traveling in the opposite direction as the neutrino, but the origin of the white line is between layers of detector material. This one is seen apparently traveling from left to right in the Slice view, above the beam line, between tracker layers 1 and 2.

Because of this, it doesn't look like a W- or Z- boson decay. Is it just by chance that something caused a new charged particle to appear in the same area as the red dashed line?
