Orange and cyan

This is the third time I have noticed orange trajectories splitting off from cyan trajectories. Does this have any particular (known) meaning?

I could very well be wrong, but I think the colors on vertexes are just the computer's way of marking what it thinks are separate vertexes - to give a visual cue to identify where it has distinguished multiple vertexes (though sometimes it seems to be wrong, giving a single vertex multiple colors)
