Some of you may be interested in Matt Strassler's latest blog post, where he talks about triggering mechanisms at the LHC and how they can save data that we use to spot our OCVs

Good one! I'll sticky it for today, so everyone can read it. 😃

Great read. A good reminder of the huge amount of data that is produced and must be thrown out -sacrificing potentially interesting data - in order to process the things that are most likely to be interesting. Thanks for sharing!

for exotic hunters I would suggest reading http://arxiv.org/abs/1412.0805 a whole new zoo of possibilities .

I think it would be helpful if the slice and the normal were shown on first page at the same time, so that one could go to the next candidate without having a next step to get the slice. zooming could give the details

I read that the slice is not given for some sampling reason or other. On the other hand the slice is important because it immediately shows the imbalance of beam gas interaction which make the event trivial. For an imbalanced event in the slice view only the ones with energy perpendicular to the beam have any high energy meaning and I wonder why there has been no cut to exclude these. In the center of mass anything interesting should be as likely to come perpendicular to the beam direction as in parallel, and beam gas would be excluded..

I mean exclude beam gas interactions of course.

From what I have heard, presenting only one view is done to keep the task of classifying objects more simple. That and zooming were features that were intentionally not implemented by the science team.

More information in the FAQs! 😃

    Hi all,
There is a new IMAX movie coming about about CERN and the LHC: http://secretsoftheuniversefilm.com/

They have a great site, with a nice blog: http://secretsoftheuniversefilm.com/blog/

You can read about a recent visitor's trip to CERN here: http://secretsoftheuniversefilm.com/the-most-beautiful-garden-in-the-world/

    Hope you enjoy it!
