Slice View Colours

  • lx by lx

What do the multi-coloured dots in the chamber centre represent?

I couldn't help noticing that sometimes tracks begin along the centre axis in a "staggered" fashion while in normal view they all originate in the centre, as if the particles are generated at different depths of the target. (Admittedly I haven't read too much about the nature of the target yet....)

    Thanks!

Good one! The proton bunches are thin (~microns) and long (cm's). So in the normal view all the proton collisions are in the center, overlapping. But in the slice view they're spread out. Each ellipse is a computer-found proton collision vertex.
